Evidence-Based School Safety Program.

Research has found that perceptions of school safety can affect students’ academic achievement. This mirrors the effects that have been observed in the studies of Positive Action.

School safety issues begin with student behavior. By addressing student behavior problems with Positive Action lessons, schools and districts can prevent safety issues from ever arising. This includes reducing the prevalence of weapons, fighting and bullying on school campuses. Unit 2 also offers specific lessons on school safety issues.

School safety programs are another opportunity to additionally reinforce positive actions. By associating school safety with positive actions, students learn that their behavior can have implications for their physical health and safety. They also learn that their actions affect the health and safety of their family and their friends around them.
