With support from the Department of Justice – Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the two organizations are working together to provide effective mentoring opportunities for our nation’s youth. Beginning in January 2016, Boys & Girls Clubs around the country will use Positive Action materials in their afterschool programs.
This partnership results from more than a decade of favorable results that local Clubs have had using Positive Action, in a variety of communities. It is an unprecedented opportunity for youth nationwide to pursue meaningful learning opportunities outside the classroom, in a supervised manner.
Positive Action is an education program that has been implemented in thousands of schools, as well as by community organizations and in many other settings. Offering an extensive catalog of products, Positive Action engages youth ages 4 to 18 in character development, social and emotional learning and academic improvement. For more than 30 years, Positive Action has been helping students achieve success in school and in life.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America is a congressionally chartered organization that provides material support to thousands of local Clubs, which are important foundations of many communities. For more than 150 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of America has enhanced the character development of our nation’s youth.
With support from the Department of Justice, this partnership exemplifies how government, organizations and businesses can work together to achieve a better future for young people. The mentoring project is an important first step in a concerted effort to provide additional meaningful afterschool opportunities for students.
Boys & Girls Clubs provide a safe and supervised environment for youth to explore academic and personal interests outside the traditional school classroom. These opportunities are essential for mentors to engage with youth at critical times in their development. With Positive Action, an evidence-based curriculum that has been proven to achieve results, Club leaders can better serve their members.
