Grade 8 begins with a short review of Units 1–3 before continuing with lessons for Units 4–6.

The Units 1–3 review lessons emphasize the self-discovery nature of the program, with students becoming Positive Identity Investigators as they continue the study of themselves. The second broadcast season of the radio call-in talk show and drama on PALS Radio continues. However, there is a change in all of the characters’ names.

Students launch this thrilling year of Positive Action by taking on the crucial roles as show co-hosts and characters in the play.

Students learn the process of flipping negative circles into positive circles to work through stubborn negative behaviors using the “Positive Behavior Plan”. The Plan is used through the curriculum. The “Three Is”: image, impression, and identity, also carry on in Grade 8. Being true to yourself by telling yourself the truth helps you maintain a positive identity. With an accompanying illustrative poster, students take turns reading the “Rite of Passage,” a story that emphasizes how sometimes we have to listen to ourselves and do what we think is right even if others do not understand our reasoning.

The program ends with a challenge to students to “broaden their horizons.” In order to become our best self, we have to be willing to seek a broader understanding of the world and ourselves by pushing the immediate horizon out further to see other perspectives. This often provides opportunities we might not have had before which enable us to enrich ourselves.
